As the need for reading and learning is reduced, students will become more dependent on apps to sort and organize their information.
Is the education of our young people valuable?
Most people will say that for our young people to be independent and or self-sufficient, they need to be employable or learn a craft or trade to earn an income in the future.
How do Google Homework Helper and other apps prepare our students for the future?
If education is a series of gamification-type activities, they are memorizing lists, dropping and dragging information, and not practicing critical thinking skills. High-paying occupations require critical thinking skills and knowledge.
As a private tutor for over 10 years, I know when a child hasn’t been learning at school because everything is very, very hard. Students may have learning challenges that they work to overcome, but tools that take away the need to read and organize data are not helping students to learn. These tools teach students to be dependent on machines to find information.

If I was giving them 2 hours of homework a week, it wasn’t making up for the lack of classroom experiences. This causes me to believe that they were not engaged in learning when they were not in a classroom.
Most of the interaction was via Google Classroom, Zoom, worksheets, and apps. They still use worksheets, Google Classroom, and apps. Was the lack of daily interchange with their teacher a significant factor? It must be.
The value of human interaction in the learning process can not be undervalued. Whether that’s learning in teams or talking one-on-one with their teacher or a tutor, it makes a difference.
Students who rely on apps and Google Homework Help will learn technology and digital skills, but they will not learn the value of reading textbooks.
The Guttenburg Press pulled Western society out of the Middle Ages. Over-reliance on Education Apps may lead us back to an age of illiteracy.
For students to read well, they must read.
For students to do math well, they must be proficient with numbers and principles.
This may seem redundant and tedious, but it’s the truth.

We all have to learn to organise information and assimilate new ideas. Are we teaching this?
